Kauri Point

2 Chelmsford St, Katikati

Kauri Point has a long association with horticulture, particularly avocados, but it is probably best known for the Kauri Point jetty which juts out into the deep water of the northern Tauranga Harbour. There are plenty of fish to be caught here, including good size kingies, and it is a rare day when the favourite possies are deserted. Pods of orca are regular visitors.

The bush walks are a treat, and afford excellent views of the three easily accessible pa sites. Low tide walks around the foreshore are a must, and provide a view of some 1970s (and more recent) rock art. There's beach access at high tide for boaties with a tinny and a four wheel drive; and safe swimming areas for the youngsters.

To get to Kauri Point travel north out of Katikati for three kilometres, turn right onto Kauri Point Road. At the T intersection turn right to travel down to the shoreline and the jetty.
